Bunker at Hartlen Point

1) A Picture of the bunker at Hartlen Point with the large gun emplacement.

Main Entry to Tunnel

2) A Picture of the main entry point into the tunnel system. It is a huge opening set in the bank. The door you see in the center is quite oversized. It is completely visible from the road that goes to the Hartlen Point Golf Course.

Opening at the Bunker

3) A Picture of the way we used to sneak in. The rectangular structure in the foreground is a large concrete stairwell which travels down two flights to the tunnels below.

Both entrances have been fitted with new concrete plugs since I was last there. The one in picture 3 had been plugged back then, but a corner of the plug had been removed leaving enough room for a brave soul to enter. Now all souls are anned. I state again that I do not know how far or where the tunnels go, but they definitely do exist.

The course, as well as the bunkers and so on, are next to the ocean, and that part of the beach between the Point and Devil’s Island makes a nice hike. The geology is wonderful, and there is often good beachcombing. It, with a quick poke around the bunker, would make a nice afternoon’s adventure if anyone is interested. – John Coleman, Jan 10, 2003
