Plymouth Stone, Yarmouth County
These images come from slides that are in the collection of George F. W. Young, professor of history at Saint Mary’s University. They were very kindly scanned by Brian. I believe that these slides were made in November 1972, but they are duplicates of other, older slides.
A practically identical photo of this inscribed stone (but less closely cropped) was published in the NEARA Journal, Vol 7, No 4, Dec.
72, p. 69. The caption reads: “The Plymouth Stone, Found in 1966 by Percy Wyman, imbedded in a stone wall with tree roots clasped around it, at Plymouth, NS, five miles east of Yarmouth.”
It might be safe to assume that the other image is the wall where it was found, but I don’t have any specific information on that.
If anyone has any additional information regarding these (or related) images and inscriptions, please let me know.
